Tens Machine For Back Pain Relief

Back pain can be tackled in many ways. You can not depend upon the merit of any one type of treatment, to get rid of back pain. When you have back pain and when it does not subside for days together, you are so confused you are willing to follow any type of therapy that offers you hope of relief.

Well, it is the machine again that has come to the rescue of the humanity. For taking care of the lower back pain TENS machine (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is used with much benefit. Powered by the batteries that send mild electric pulse through the nerves, to block the pain signals is transmitted to the brain. The pressure felt in the affected area where the pain was located is relaxed. But the cost of such treatments is on the high side, which bars many from availing the treatment.

It is not that the TENS machine is the panacea for your back pain and once you have availed the services of this machine, you are free from your back pain for ever. Proper lifestyle and taking care of little things, which you consider as insignificant, is the indirect part of your treatment.

TENS machine CanadaBe disciplined when you sit, stand or lift things. Don’t do things casually, without paying proper attention. If you sit on a properly non-aligned chair that could itself be the cause of your back pain. While picking up anything from the ground, bend from the knees in a relaxed manner, and not the stiff bend by just using the back. Do not put stress on the lower muscles of your back.

If the popularity of the machine is any indication, the TENS machine has done well. To many it has given total relief, to some partial. And as it is a case with all other therapies to treat back pain, to some there is no relief at all. Nevertheless, this TENS treatment has caught the imagination of the sufferers.

Even if one man is treated, it is one less patient of back pain! Further research is being carried out to judge the effectiveness of the machine, as part of the modern day medicine. At the existing level, the relief in pain provided by the machine varies from person to person.

The TENS machine works in two ways. The machine will trigger the pain gate to close when it is set on a high pulse rate of 90-130 Hz which it is believed, will block the pain nerve path to the brain. This can be said to be its normal functioning. When 1000 the machine is set on a low pulse rate, 2-5 Hz, it will cause the body to make its own pain easing chemicals called endorphins.

The main advantage of using the TENS machine is that, that there are no side effects. But this treatment is strictly to be taken under the guidance and supervision of the physician only.

TENS Pain Relief in Pregnancy

Electronic Pain Relief No Comments »

Safe for a mother and her baby, the TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) machine is a drug free method of relieving labor pain. TENS is a device that sends low frequency electronic pulses through the skin to block pain signals from being sent to the brain. It also stimulates pain killing hormones called endorphins. For a pregnant woman, the pulses inhibit pain messages that come from the cervix and womb, thereby reducing pain.

TENS Pain Relief in PregnancyA TENS machine sends electrical pulses to specific areas on the back using wires and three or four small adhesive pads with electrodes. The electrodes are connected by wires to a battery operated pulsar. Two pads are placed below the bra line and two are placed above the panty line. A pregnant woman uses a hand held control and delivers gentle electric currents which travel to the location of the electrodes. Depending on the intensity of the pain, a woman can control the rate and strength of the electrical pulses.

TENS machines have two currents for the childbirth process. A stronger current is used during contractions and a lighter current is used between contractions. When a TENS machine is set on a high pulse rate it prompts the pain ‘doorway’ to close. This prevents the pain signal from reaching the brain. When the machine is set on a low pulse rate, the body is stimulated into releasing its own endorphins.

TENS is most effective when used at the onset of labor. This allows for an early build up of pain killing endorphins. When the appropriate current strength has been achieved, the positive effects are immediate. The longer the delay in employing the TENS, the less efficient the stimulator will be.

Benefits of TENS machines are numerous and include:

- The user has control over the electronic impulse
- They are portable so one maintains mobility while they use it
- You can add other drugs with no fear of a reaction
- There are no side effects to the mother and baby
- TENS machines have been used successfully to treat a range of other conditions such as headaches, back pain, insomnia and postpartum depression.

Many mothers are uncomfortable with using pain medication during labor because they worry about drowsiness making them unable to nurse or bond properly for several hours after the birth. With TENS machines, there are no such concerns as the machines can be used safely throughout the labor process with no negative side effects. Many women report a pleasant feeling when using a TENS machine. Although it produces a gentle "pins and needles’ feeling, many women have said they feel a tingling sensation that is not painful.

A number of issues to be aware of when using the TENS machine include:

- TENS should be used from the 37th week of pregnancy.
- Do not use TENS in the water such as when showering or in a birthing pool.
- Do not use TENS when driving, riding a bike, or operating machinery.
- Having the electrodes attached to your back prevents your back from being massaged. Back massages are traditional forms of pain relief during labor.
- Consult with your doctor before using TENS if you have a pacemaker, heart condition, or epilepsy
- Electrodes should not be placed on the abdomen.
- If you are having your labor induced, start the TENS machine about 45 minutes prior to induction.

A hospital may not have a TENS machine so it is important to check with the hospital to see if they have a machine available. If you plan to use a TENS machine, you can rent one from a reputable company. Check with your doctor or hospital to locate a TENS machine.

Many women are becoming uncomfortable with the increase use of pain medications during labor. Women are now looking for alternative and natural way to alleviate pain associated with childbirth. The TENS machine is fast becoming a popular choice for natural pain relief. If you are looking for a natural birth experience then TENS is a pain relief method worth considering.

TENS is a contemporary, non-pharmaceutical pain relief treatment. The word "TENS" is actually an acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator.

Click here to find units for home use.

Tens Pain Relief

Its full name can be a little bit misleading, since many people associate "electrical" with shock and shock therapy. In reality, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator treatment, which is delivered through the use of a TENS unit, delivers a mild pulsing sensation, not shock.

TENS units are devices which deliver low levels of electrical currents topically (through the skin.)The device creates a series of pulsing sensations. The frequency and intensity of the pulses are controlled through knobs and/or buttons. The electrical pulses are delivered from the device to the skin through the use of electrodes. These electrodes are connected by wire to the TENS unit and applied to the skin, directly over the place where the pain relief is needed.

Depending on the nature of the injury or illness, doctors and therapists may start patients on a very low frequency and intensity of pulses. They may gradually increase that level if the patient is comfortable and the condition warrants it.Some units can actually be controlled by the patient, who can adjust the level him/herself to a level that is comfortable and provides the most benefit.

The length of the treatment itself often depends on the nature of the injury/illness.A typical course of treatment for acute pain (i.e. post-op pain or accident injury) lasts for 6-8 weeks, with two to three sessions per week.Individual sessions may last for ten to twenty minutes, and may be adjusted depending on the effectiveness of the treatment and the progress of healing.TENS pain relief treatment for chronic pain (i.e. MS, arthritis) may be delivered on an ongoing and as-needed basis.

This therapy may be prescribed to alleviate pain from a range of illnesses or injuries.TENS therapy may be prescribed for treatment of both chronic (pain that is recurrent, such as pain from osteoarthritis) and acute pain (pain that is the result of an injury that hasn’t healed completely.) It has been used to treat tissue and muscle damage (i.e. from a car accident or sports injury), pain resulting from surgery, strains (i.e. neck, back), tendinitis, arthritis and more.

There is conflicting information on the effectiveness of TENS pain relief treatment.Research has only been conducted on a few specific types of pain, and in most of these cases has been shown to be moderately to highly effective.Effectiveness usually depends upon the nature of the illness/injury, and the overall health and fitness of the individual patient.

TENS therapy has become a fairly routine form of treatment for pain and rehabilitation after an accident or operation.A majority of patients who receive TENS therapy report at least a small level of pain relief. Many find the treatment very effective, and most physical therapists agree that it may significantly shorten the duration of healing. It is also an excellent alternative to drug treatments, especially when used on a regular basis during recovery.

TENS units are found in two basic types. They may be found in the form of a home device, which patients can use in their own homes as needed (or prescribed) rather than requiring a doctor’s or therapist’s visit. These units typically deliver lower levels of electricity and pre-programmed programs of treatment.

The other type of TENS unit is more complex. It usually has the potential to deliver higher electricity levels than home units, and therefore must be administered under the supervision of a doctor or therapist.

How to Use a Tens Machine

TENS Unit Pain Relief - How my TENS Unit was a Saviour!

Do you experience REAL back pain? Does everything seem a bit more challenging? Do you spend nights tossing and turning, get into that golden position, to only get woken up an hour later by your alarm? Are you now not only fighting back pain but depression too?…A TENS unit became my savior! After a few sessions with this easy to use, compact, self controlled machine, my pain decreased considerably.

Have you ever experienced REAL back pain? Those who have, will empathize with how debilitating it can really be.

How to use a Tens machineA day in the life of a back pain sufferer…Nights are spent tossing and turning trying to find a position that doesn’t hurt and once you finally do find a position (which you have been in a thousand times before, during that same night) you sleep for an hour then the alarm goes to get up to go to work. May sound like no big deal but getting no restful, rejuvenating sleep means your body hurts even more and if you hadn’t noticed, lack of sleep constantly, is actually very frustrating and doesn’t put you in the best of moods!

So the alarm goes and then the next challenge occurs…and the next and the next…getting out of bed, getting into the shower, getting dressed, getting in the car, going to work and sitting at the computer…oh and did I forget trying to socialize…

Basically everything is impaired…you end up hobbling all over the place due to the shooting pains down your legs, cant carry things because of the huge aches in your shoulders…you get frustrated and frankly, downright depressed…so now you have to fight off anxiety and depression as well as a very painful back!

So…how did I get my life back on track?

A friend introduced me to one of the most underrated best gadgets I have ever come across - a TENS unit! This small but extremely effective machine is easy to use and totally affordable by anyone’s standards. You put the electrodes on your back (or wherever the pain is), hold the TENS unit in your hand and adjust the settings to whatever is good for you. I found 60-80 pulses p/second was amazing for me, but the really informative booklets that come with them basically give you all the information you need to ensure your TENS unit works just the way you need it to.

How does it work? Essentially, it’s like acupuncture but without any of those awful pins being stuck into you. Have it on a low frequency setting and pressure points under your skin are stimulated encouraging endorphin production; natural pain relieving chemicals produced by your own body. Have it on a high frequency and these stimulating messages are sent faster to your brain than the pain in your back; the TENS unit message inhibits the back pain message from coming in…interesting huh!

Anyway…I tried this TENS unit of my friend’s and it was incredible….and to cut a long story short I have been using one ever since.

I use it before bed, whilst eating my breakfast, at work, in that uncomfortable chair in the restaurant so I actually CAN enjoy my evening out with friends…it truly has made my life so much more pleasant and the pain relief can last for many hours and sometimes days…plus, it actually feels quite nice when it’s on which is a bonus!
Honestly, this was the best thing I ever did!

I did research and found that Body Clock’s TENS units are great value for money with a great range so you can choose the best one for you.

Pain Management: Relieve Chronic Pain

Most people do not take the time to really care for their health in the fast paced in our society. Problems like lack of sleep, lack of focus and concentration, and chronic stress are scourge. And one of the worst problems that we have is the chronic pain. Our society buys all kinds of pain remedies - from traditional pills like Tylenol and aspirin, to extra strength pain relief that is only available through prescription, to herbal and alternative treatments. Some of the advanced pain relief methods even involve acupuncture, energy manipulation, and other New Age techniques. You will try anything to make it go when you are suffering from chronic pain. Luckily, many of these pain remedies are quite effective.

A year ago, I was in chronic pain when I strained my back. I tried almost every back pain remedy that there was. None of them offered sufficient help by themselves but I’ve heard that prescription remedies were pretty good even they would take away most of the pain, but nonetheless I would be chronically not comfortable. I would always feel stiff and restless and I would not be able to sit still for long period of time. I tried some exercises for back pain relief, but initially they did very little. I stuck with this exercise and added a few other pain remedies as well. Although I tried some acupuncture pain relief, and even breathing exercise, but none of it worked b itself, but together it finally strike the back pain. Now I am as healthy as I have ever been!

Advance Pain ReliefAs what I have experienced from my pain remedies which provides a lesson that is important to listen to. . A lot of the time, we look for one cause and one solution. Finding the right pain remedies can be a long and involved process if you assume that there can only be one thing that’s going to take care of everything. However, you will find a pain remedy that works for it, if you are willing to be open to the possibility that the problem is a complex one that requires a multi-tiered approach. In my case, my pain remedies involved exercises, medication, changes in my diet, and even changes in my work schedule. I would still be in chronic pain, if I had not been willing to try all of these things. I feel better now, because I was open minded and dedicated to find a solution.

Nowadays, doesn’t it seem like people have a lot of problems. You’ll soon become aware that our world is not well, if you take a look at contemporary articles and news media. From the way my grandfather tells it, folks have many more issues regarding the body and mind in today’s society. This is vague since people are basically made the same way. Maybe it’s in the food or maybe it relates back to all the electronics we currently use on a daily basis. Either, these days you can easily find a pain relief cream or oral medication for almost anything.

The question is where would you search for an effective pain management? I believe most people would head on over to the local drugstore. If you’re not in the market for some kind of ailment, probably your best choice is the drugstore. They do provide a vast array of treatments, medications, and drugs. However, just because they are considered the be-all end-all to physical pain relief, doesn’t mean that they’re all that’s out there. Internet I think is the greatest nuance to the world as we know it. After all, computers and the Internet have been in full swing for a while now. For my answers I open my Mac G4 Ibook. Just a few months back I resorted to the Internet for a pain relief cream. I needed something to prevent the on-set of carpal tunnel syndrome. There’s no way in hell that I ever want to tackle with this affliction. Therefore the best way to prevent is to use proper typing positioning and a quality pain relief cream to treat any minor damage. I can prevent this way anything from getting worse. Regardless, I found a quality and highly recommended pain relief cream on the World-Wide-Web.

Get online now; if you are need some pain relief cream fast pertaining to your particular affliction. This is the way of the future folks. As you try to manage your back pain problem and investigate various treatment approaches, you can help yourself by being assured and hopeful that you can remedy your problem. This reliable reference gives you plenty to reason to believe that back pain does get better, and successful treatment is possible.
